Netflix alternative genres

I’ve had this list in a text file for ages, so I figured it would be one of those things I should post here. Someone else might find a use for it. Navigate to thus URL https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/XXX and replace the XXX with one of the category numbers underneath. Happy Netflixing. Outlook.com custom domains to make a return?

Microsoft is Testing a Premium Version of Outlook.com Paul Thurrott has the news as always via Mary Jo Foley. Pretty interesting as far as I’m concerned. I never understood why they didn’t make this part of the Office 365 Home subscription. Even though it’s possible use your domain email with Outlook.com today, it would be pretty nifty for my family if they made the functionality a bit better. We have two domains and it would make a lot of sense if we could use them with Outlook.com, especially after the move to the Office365 infrastructure.

Opt-in new Outlook.com

Outlook.com is moving to the office365 infrastructure. If you care about these things I came across an opt-in option, which will get you on the waitlist. I am not sure if it’s US only thing, but it apeears ok from Europe. Check it out here: http://mail.live.com/default.aspx?owaoptin=1

Reevaluating

As I am getting ready to move to a new phone platform, and maybe a new computing platform, I am reevaluating the services I use. Email is perhaps the most basic service I use, so I have been playing around with Gmail lately. I use Chrome as my main browser, so it made sense to check out Gmail again. So, I am at work and PC more or less stops responding. I check the task manager and Chrome seems to be bandit and after killing it my machine comes back to life. This prompted me to check out Chrome’s own...

RIP Windows Phone

I bought my first smartphone in 2011. Microsoft had just released Windows Phone 7 and at the time I thought it seemed like a compelling alternative to iOS and Android. Of course, that was not the way things went. My HTC Radar 4 met en early end when I accidently left it in a pair of jeans that went into the washing machine. The power was still on, but it never returned to actual use. My next phone was the Lumia 800. I really liked the hardware design, and it just a mucj better product than the HTC. It was...

New Year’s resolution

I didn’t make any resolutions this year, mainly because I have never been able to fulfill any of them in the past. However, last year I made one. I would stop posting on this blog. Now, I didn’t do too well, however, most of the few posts I wrote were issues with my Windows devices that I was somehow able to solve, and I figured other people could benefit from seeing the fixes I discovered. The ambition with this blog was a lways to blog about my work, but I have never had an employer that allowed me to do...

Windows Live Writer is now Open Source

I have pretty much stopped blogging, so there’s a bit of irony in this post. Be that as it may, the best blogging tool out there, Windows Live Write has now been open sourced. At the same time it has been renamed to Open Live Writer. Scott Hanselman has been one of the driving forces behind this initiative, so a big thanks to him. Update: Here’s the link to the community and download page.

Considering a new phone

My youngest son is a year and a half old. Also known as Destructor the Baby he got his hands on my Lumia 930 a couple of months back, and needless to say the phone has taken serious beating. Wi-Fi seems to be experiencing some serious issues, the proximity sensor is toast and of course the screen is all scratched up. Given that the Lumia 950 and 950 XL will soon hit the market, one might think that it is a pretty easy choice to pick a new phone. However, for the first time ever, I am seriously considering selling...
